Working on Creative Blocks

We all have aspirations, not just in our careers, but in our capacity to create, solve problems, and leave a meaningful mark.

We dream of innovative solutions, fresh ideas, and powerful contributions.

Yet many of us find ourselves held back.

Not because of a lack of talent or resources, but because of hidden cognitive blocks.

These are subtle limitations in our mindset that keep us from unlocking our full creative potential.

These blocks are rarely obvious. They show up in three common ways:

1. The Weight of Overwhelm

Sometimes we feel heavy, drained, or unmotivated. Instead of exploring new possibilities, we retreat into the comfort of doing nothing or doing only the bare minimum.

This isn’t true rest. It’s avoidance disguised as fatigue. In creativity, this shows up as “I’m too busy, I’ll get to it later,” and our best ideas never get off the ground.

2. The Distractions of Busyness

We get caught in cycles of endless tasks, notifications, and shallow scrolling. We fill our day with activity, but not with progress.

This block masks itself as productivity, yet it keeps us from focusing deeply on the creative work that matters most. Instead of nurturing bold ideas, we nibble at the edges of trivial ones.

3. The Trap of Self-Doubt

Perhaps the most paralyzing block is self-denigration: “I can’t. I’m not creative enough. Others are different, but not me.”

This mindset convinces us to give up before we even begin. It keeps us safe in our familiar patterns, but it robs us of growth, innovation, and joy.

Unblocking Through Creative Practice

These are patterns of the mind, which we can retrain. And the good news is, just as we can train our bodies, we can train our creative muscles.

That’s why the Evaluating Your Creativity Workshop exists: to help you spot these blocks, and then move through them with tools, techniques, and practices designed to expand your creative range.

In our workshop, you’ll learn to:

  • Recognize your patterns, where you hold yourself back.
  • Strengthen your creative muscle through small but powerful exercises.
  • Shift your mindset from “I can’t” to “I can experiment, play, and grow.”
  • Build a toolkit of problem-solving methods you can apply at work and in life.
  • Connect with others who are on the same journey, celebrating wins and breakthroughs together.

We have a lot of ingrained myths about creativity.

Creativity is about showing up, unblocking yourself, and practicing in community.

Confidence and originality come from familiarizing yourself with the creative process, over and over, until it feels natural.

Building that creative muscle.
